Gielinor Tribune History *Article from the 10th Edition of the Gielinor Tribune written by Book Aaahhh...the Gielinor Tribune. From what I know, if we don't include the Tip.it Times of course, the Gielinor Tribune is the longest lasting and the most popular player-made newspaper on Tip.it! It was created by good ole' Junka666 (who is still the official Owner) on May 20th 2007. After he posted his idea on Tip.it F2P Discussion, as the Discussion Forum used to be split F2P/P2P, his idea was met with 13 replys from the public with 5 staff applications on the same day as him posting the thread - which he posted it at 4:00pm that day mind you. As a few days passed Junka's thread on the Gielinor Tribune stayed on the 1st page and continued to recieve a great amout of feedback. But also in those few days Junka had gathered a staff and begun to build the 1st edition of the Gielinor Tribune. On May 26th, 2007 the very first edition of the Gielinor Tribune was released on Tip.it. Instantly the 1st edition bacame pretty popular. The very next Saturday, one week, we released a 2nd edition of the Gielinor Tribune that was met with hundreds of views and pages of feedback. Not only were we gaining popularity but our staff was growing to, as more and more people wanted to join the amazing Gielinor Tribune. Lets now bring OnyxTimes into the picture. This was yet another newspaper...excuse me...portal created by Skill_caster. At first the Gielinor Tribune viewed this portal as a threat, competition, whatever you want to call it. But soon, and quickly, we saw that it posessed the strength to succeed unlike the many other newspapers popping up around us. Junka and Skill_caster talked and they decided to join forces in order to be the best. Ha! That didn't last long. Unknown to me, we, for some reason, broke bonds with the OnyxTimes and yes, they vanished. We continued rockin on getting out a 3rd edition which did amazing like the first two... but then something happened within the staff. I don't quite remember, but we had some problems, people quitting or not doing their job I suppose. It took us a while, way to long actually, to get out a 4th edition. That edition was sad, poor, weak, it didn't do so well. Quite discouraging, and with it all being well into everyone's summer people kept going off on vacation so all we had was bad material. Took us almost a month to pull together a 5th edition but we got it out and it did better....way better than the 4th. Everyone's vacations ending (mine included) the staff slowly trickled back in and we got a 6th edition out on time. Since then we've rebuilt our staff, forums, and the paper in general and turned out the 7th, 8th, 9th, and now 10th editions - all on time and recieved great feedback. Yeah we've had our hard times, but we've stuck together and pulled through and we always will - thats why every staff member is proud and happy to be working with and for the Gielinor Tribune. Thank ya. *Written October 18th 2007 *Please note we have released 19 editions already
| Newspaper History on Tip.it
Part 1: The birth of the idea.
The 1st actual newspaper idea that came out and went pretty far (there were other threads about a newspaper people wanted to make but they didn't go as far as a few replys wishing them goodluck in doing it): - Posted on April 22nd 2007 by Xevanx with the title Runescape Newspaper -- Good idea? - Recieved 36 replys with some people saying they'd join the staff and 270 views. - Xevanx said he got as far as a template and draft but it never got posted.
This was the first reply (comment) after the thread was posted:
QUOTE (RANDOX) "If you did a really good job, tip.it might even give a link to you (i think they might do it), otherwise you'd have to advertise it some other way. I would read it, and it's a good idea is long as your a decent writer (im thinking in terms of grammer really)."
- Yes, it was our very own Randox who said that.
Part 2: The competition begins.
[Alive]Gielinor Tribune Opening - May 20th 2007 [Dead]Varrock Press Opening - May 27th 2007 [Dead] Falador Times Opening - Unknown, we remember it coming out but cannot find its thread. We KNOW it came out because in the Varrock Press thread the owner is complaining about Falador Times stealing their idea. [Dead]Gielinor Gazette Opening - June 2nd 2007 [Dead]Asgarnian Press Opening (merge of GT and Onyx) - June 10th 2007 [Alive] Project Onyx/OnyxTimes Opening - Exact date unknown, just a few days before Gielinor Tribune's we think.
Part 3: Today's Competition.
Gielinor Tribune - Alive and well, has been for a while. Very consistent in publishing dates. Project Onyx - Alive and well, just recently became what we consider "stable." Somewhat consistent in publishing dates.
